Project Design & Legal Challenges:

For the Goldman Sachs HQ project, plans include the building of an 800,000sqft office complex near Holborn Viaduct in central London, and the redevelopment of the neighbouring 13-storey Fleet Building and Plumtree Court on Shoe Lane.

Predominantly a construct for office space and the like, the building exterior was designed to be composed overwhelmingly of glass and the scheme would include for offices and childcare facilities.

An existing site was demolished in order to make room for the US investment bank’s new European headquarters. The build itself presents a huge undertaking (demonstrated by legal challenges brought over ‘rights of light’ disputes; a total of 14 nearby buildings were said to be affected by the proposed development)

Ana’s Involvement:

During this project, Ana gained 2.8 years of internal architecture and technical design experience. She also used her time on this project to sharpen her professional and interpersonal skills via liaising with a variety of professionals (such as structural and MEP contractors), working closely with the Project Architect and Construction Manager, surveying the site, designing the interiors of certain spaces, solving practical construction problems and designing joinery units.

Finally, Ana was involved in signing off shop drawings, using and controlling RFIs on ‘PM Web’ and ‘Asite’ contractor web platforms, visiting site weekly and reporting design changes to senior management.
